Sports Premium

Sport at St Mary's we aim to promote:

The Sports Premium is an allocation of additional funding provided to schools to improve the quality of PE, sports and physical education within school.

From Year 1 - Year 6, all children have two hours of PE a week which is meeting the recommended guidance from the government. We have a long term plan in place from Reception to Year 6, to ensure a rolling programme of sports, skills and vocabulary is taught and built on year on year. In KS2 we have a specialist PE coach that teaches Years 3-6, delivering weekly fitness sessions as well as a variety of sports and learning about how to balance the importance of physical health with mental wellbeing.

We have invested in a school orienteering scheme in the school grounds to allow children to bring their learning outside of the classroom and again make links to other subjects in a fun, alternative way.

All schools are required to report on the amount of funding received, how this is being used, and the impact of any work done.

This was, and continues to be used as follows:

  • Promote physical fitness and help children understand how to maintain a healthy lifestyle, supporting both physical and mental wellbeing.
  • Develop knowledge of how to stay healthy, including the importance of exercise, teamwork, and resillience.
  • Provide a progressive curriculum where skills are taught, revisited and built upon year on year.
  • Ensure clear progression across all year groups, enables every child to improve and achieve their potential.
  • Invest in high-quality equipment to enhance learning and skill development, including new football posts and athletics resources.
  • Offer a wide range of sports and physical activities so all children can experience different disciplines and environments.
  • Provide opportunities for competitive fixtures to develop teamwork, confidence and sportmanship.
  • Organise residential experiences for Year 5 and Year 6 pupils to promote independence, teamwork and outdoor learning.
  • Maximise use of the school's orienteering course to support cross-curricular learning in an active, outdoor environment.
  • Develop staff and ensure CPD were needed.
